Measles Cases Rise in Sudan's Darfur
According to MSF, more than 1,300 measles infections have been documented at health centers supported by the group since September 2025. This has occurred despite repeated alerts stressing the importance of launching emergency vaccination campaigns and restoring routine immunization programs, the organization stated in an official release.
The outbreak has worsened because of postponed vaccine deliveries and multiple delays in reactive vaccination campaigns, leaving many children unprotected as the disease continues to spread, the group added.
Sudan’s humanitarian situation has deteriorated further since fighting broke out in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over efforts to unify the military. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced roughly 13 million people.
MSF urged Sudanese authorities to eliminate what it described as “bureaucratic and administrative obstacles” that are hindering the transportation of vaccines throughout Darfur.
The organization also called on UNICEF to swiftly coordinate actions to enhance the distribution of vaccines, syringes, and other essential supplies in the affected areas.
